2009 Algebra 1 Part 1 Midterm Study Guide

Red 4: 7:50-9:10 Wednesday, January 21st 2009

As with any test, the most important thing is that you demonstrate as much good mathematics as possible. This is your opportunity to show me what you've learned this semester. Use your time wisely- 75 minutes is a long time, but you will probably want to use it all for working and checking. Some of you will finish early. If you do, take a break and then start checking answers and re-doing those that are incorrect.

Coverage & Exam Format:

The exam will have questions assessing all the material we studied this semester. We have studied 3 units of work- they make up pages 1-60 of your notebook. The exam will consist of one multiple choice section and one open notes section. The multiple choice section is a 40 question final exam for an Algebra 1 course. Since we have only studied the first quarter of Algebra 1, you are only expected to get 10 correct- any additional will count as extra credit. The open notes section will look just like the three pages handed out in class (answers to those questions are here: Midterm open notes review Alg1 Pt1.pdf).

To review:

  • Skim through your notebook to remind yourself of the topics; make sure your notebook is organized and complete.
  • Do the open notes section that was handed out in class, and check your answers (above).

On the day of the Midterm Exam:

  • Get to the exam early if possible.
  • Don't forget your notebook.
  • Bring a pencil and eraser.

During the Midterm Exam:

  • Don't panic.
  • Remember that the only way to get a zero on the exam is to skip it, do nothing, or cheat.
  • Check, double check, triple check your answers.
